Cabaret Press Release

No Stakes Theater Project presents Kander & Ebb’s CABARET at Berger Park Coach House from April 24 through May 6, 2017

Directed by Artistic Director Erin Shea Brady

CHICAGO (April 5, 2017) – No Stakes Theater Project presents Kander & Ebb’s CABARET, from April 24 through May 6, 2017 with Press Opening Monday, April 24 at 7:00 PM at Berger Park Coach House, 6205 N Sheridan Rd.

The production is directed by Artistic Director Erin Shea Brady and features Artistic Associate Rebecca Sohn as Sally Bowles. The pair previously collaborated on No Stakes Theater Project’s acclaimed inaugural production of Jim Cartwright’s THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE, which ran at Theater Wit in Summer 2015. CABARET is the first production under No Stakes' Actor Initiative, which promises to overcome the limitations of typecasting by providing actors with the opportunity to take their education into their own hands. The process has served to foster the collaboration between Brady, Sohn and choreographer Mollyanne Nunn.

“Through our Actor Initiative, we're opening up a door to actors who want to explore roles outside of their traditional ‘type’. I firmly believe - and it's the basis of No Stakes - that if we go outside of our comfort zone, we're forced to play around in pockets of our brain that we haven't explored and that's what helps us grow." - Erin Shea Brady

CABARET features original choreography by Artistic Associate Mollyanne Nunn, whose approach highlights the company’s commitment to body positivity. “I want to break the mold of what it “should be”. There’s so much room to be playful. I can give [a dancer] a move and I can make [that dancer] do it a thousand times but if [they] aren’t comfortable doing that move, it’ll never look the way it’s pictured in my head. Dance isn’t a natural thing for our bodies to do, so it has to feel good. A move can make you feel powerful or sexy or vulnerable or beautiful.”

Joining Rebecca Sohn (Sally Bowles) are Eileen Brady (Child’s Voice), Adam Gianforte (Band), Cory Hardin (Cliff Bradshaw), Rosalind Hurwitz (Fraulein Schneider), Alex Madda (Ensemble), Chase McIntoush (Bobby), Chelsea Milligan (Dance Captain/Ensemble), Greg Mills (Herr Schultz), Emilie Modaff (Band/Soloist), Nicole Nola (Fraulein Kost), Jessica Paramo (Fight Captain/Ensemble), Erick Rivera (Band), Tyler Anthony Smith (Ernst Ludwig), and Chelsea Wellmann (Band), with Hannah Starr as the “Emcee”.

CABARET features music direction by Company Member Emilie Modaff and Erick Rivera.

The production team for CABARET includes: Michelle Benda (lighting design), Max Colvill (assistant director), Susan Gosdick (dialect coach), Ian Michael James (co-dramaturg), Clarissa Jugo (production manager), Kristina McCloskey (co-dramaturg), Moriah Lee Turner (costume design), Christopher Van Der Ark (stage manager), Luke Van Marter (fight design), and Bec Willett (scenic and properties design, graphic design).

No Stakes Theater Project is committed to providing a safe space for artists to explore projects that will help them grow - whether that means providing an outlet for local storytellers to share their work through our Hummingbird Live Lit events, supporting emerging directors as they tackle the projects that scare them in our Wingspan Reading Series, or giving a voice to actors who want to learn from roles outside of their type through our Actor Initiative. Our mission is to provide an environment in which emerging theater artists can take major artistic risks that will further their development, diversify artistic collaborations and foster their individual artistic sensibilities. We are committed to producing plays that give a voice to the voiceless, exploring the world through social and cultural perspectives that lack representation, and representing women – of all ages, races and sizes – as complex, thoughtful, fully-drawn human beings. We are fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas.

CABARET runs from Monday, April 24th through Saturday, May 6th, 2017. Opening Night is April 24 at 7:00 pm. The regular schedule is Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm. Industry Night is Monday, May 1 at 7:00 pm. Regularly priced tickets range from $16.50-$26.50. Tickets are available at nostakestheaterproject.org.
