Annapurna by Sharr White
Sharr White's writing is complex and vital. When I first read ANNAPURNA, I was struck by how human it is. This relationship, between Emma and Ulysses, is nuanced and truthful. It's not big drama. It's just real life.
In rehearsal, this play is a goldmine. As Emma says, "People...do things!" People make horrible mistakes and don't know they've made them until years later. People drop their gloves on the way down the mountain and are forced to climb with their bare hands. People leave in the middle of the night. People lose time.
To explore the why - what's underneath the things they do, the things they want, the things they say–and even more so, to explore what they do about it, how they cope... It has been a wonderful challenge.
